XP Hide Inactive Icons Greyed / Tray Icons Missing

Following an Upgrade to Service Pack 3 all Tray Icons were missing excluding the System Clock.  When I check the Start Menu Preferences the “Hide Inactive Icons” is greyed out.  I have seen this issue on 2 systems so far and have yet to pin down the cause however the following steps will correct it.

Goto Start, then Run and type “regedit”

Navigate to: 

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ Explorer

Delete the Following two entries:

Next perform the same steps on the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ Explorer

Log off and back on to apply the changes.
